Reported/Observed Symptom:
Ideal Logic Breakdown Displaying a L2 Fault Code in Grimsby DN34. The boiler was locking out, with no heating or hot water available once the boiler is locked out / L2 on the display.

Customer was concerned the boiler was making loud "banging" noises on occasion. Also said boiler would run for a period before locking out.

Fault Code: L2

Diagnosis/Notes:
Was immediately clear this Ideal Logic needed a complete strip down service and clean. Condensate trap was blocked and full of murky cloudy solids. Expansion had 0 bar charge. Very dirty inside the casing. Burner gasket was passing products of combustion. Heat exchanger was very dirty.

After cleaning:
Flue Gas Analysis: Passed
System Pressure: Stable

Resolution

• Outcome: The boiler needed a complete overhaul, strip service and clean.
• Parts Replaced: Burner Gasket

Additional Comments

Combi boilers are highly efficient. The penalty of their efficiency is they do require a certain level of maintenance. These types of breakdowns are completely avoidable, nothing "broke". The boiler had just become so choked with dirt / dust and debris accumulated through thousands of hours of heroic service heating the customers home. Also advised changing case seal next service as beginning to deteriorate.

When this Ideal Logic started displaying the L2 fault code, the boilers sensors indicated it was no longer able to safely operate, so the boiler started constantly locking out to protect it's owner and their home. We were able to fix the issue same day.
