Reported/Observed Symptom:
Call out was for a Ideal Logic C30 Repair in Cleethorpes (DN35) with no heating or hot water. Customer was getting their house decorated, had drained system and removed 2 radiator. Since removing the radiator, had been unable to re-pressurise system / block was locking out.

Fault Code: Overheat Lockout

Diagnosis/Notes:
Central heating system used microbore 8mm flow and return pipework, which is notorious for blocking with magnetite, especially after draining or disturbing the system. Whilst we're still allowed to maintain or repair microbore pipework systems, but this type of narrow diameter pipework is no longer legally acceptable to use on new installations due to high probability of blocking over time. Due to the radiators being removed, the existing rusty sludge (magnetite) was "stirred up" and the alterations also left the pipework with "dead-legs" , where we're unable to force the flow of water round to push out any airlocks. We also discovered the radiator valves were leaking. Once we managed to move the airlocks and stop the valves leaking, this Ideal Logic C30 boiler was returned to full operational order.

Additional Comments

Because this central heating system includes microbore pipework, which is known to be a nightmare once it's blocked with Magnetite (rusty particulate from the radiators), have advised the customer get their system Magnacleanse flushed. Central heating systems do need maintenance and acknowledging the factors installation which could possibly affect reliability in the future allows us to take effective preventative treatments.
