Ideal Logic Boiler Fault Codes: What They Mean & How to Fix Them

Ideal Logic boilers are some of the most common heating systems across Grimsby, Cleethorpes, and North East Lincolnshire. With the main Ideal factory just over in Hull, these boilers are a staple in local homes.

They are generally reliable workhorses, but when things go wrong, the digital display will flash a specific fault code to tell you exactly what the issue is.

Some of these codes mean you can get the heating back on yourself in a matter of minutes. Others mean the boiler has locked out for your safety, and it is time to call in a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what your Ideal Logic is trying to tell you.

Faults You Can Fix Yourself

F1: Low Water Pressure This is the most common fault code and the easiest to resolve. It simply means the water pressure in your system has dropped below the minimum requirement (usually below 1 bar).

• The Fix: You don’t need an engineer for this. Check your prepayment meter hasn’t run out of credit first. If that’s fine, locate the filling loop underneath the boiler and slowly open the valves until the pressure gauge reads between 1 and 1.5 bar. Once topped up, reset the boiler.

Faults That Require a Gas Safe Engineer

If you are seeing the codes below, your boiler has locked out to prevent damage or safety hazards. Do not attempt to remove the boiler casing yourself.

L2: Ignition Lockout

The boiler has tried to fire up but failed to ignite the gas.

• What to check first: Before calling us, make sure your gas supply is active. If you are on a prepayment meter, check you have credit. If you have a gas hob, check if it lights. If the gas is on but the boiler still shows L2, it’s an internal issue.
• The Fix: This usually points to a blocked condensate pipe (especially in freezing weather), a faulty gas valve, or worn spark ignition electrodes. We carry the standard parts to diagnose and fix L2 faults quickly.

F2: Flame Loss

The boiler fired up successfully, but the flame went out during operation.

• The Fix: This is often caused by a dirty flame sensor, a failing gas valve, or an issue with the flue. We will need to inspect the combustion chamber and test the gas pressures to resolve this.

FD: No Water Flow

The pump is running, but the boiler isn’t detecting water moving through the heat exchanger.

• The Fix: This usually points to a seized or failing pump, a blocked system filter, or a stuck pump isolation valve. We can test the pump components and clear any blockages to get the water circulating again.
