Vaillant Ecotec Boiler Breakdown in New Waltham, Grimsby
The Vaillant Boiler Call-Out & Symptoms
We recently received a work order from a large national insurance provider to attend a Vaillant Ecotec boiler breakdown in New Waltham, Grimsby. The homeowner reported that the boiler was constantly locking out, leaving the property with no central heating or hot water.
Vaillant Ecotec Initial Diagnostics
Upon arrival, I initiated a test fire. At first glance, everything appeared perfectly normal. The boiler lit and ran smoothly, but after a few minutes, it abruptly cut out, replicating the exact symptom the customer had described.
An initial physical inspection showed the appliance was in good overall condition. The ignition electrode was audibly sparking, and the flame rectification device tested well within healthy parameters. Crucially, the boiler’s sensors indicated no signs of internal overheating.
Isolating the Gas Supply
Before dismantling any internal gas components, it is always best practice to rule out supply issues at the source. I carried out a standard let-by and tightness test at the primary gas meter. The installation tested completely sound, confirming a safe and unrestricted supply to the property.
Moving back to the appliance, I verified the static gas supply at the boiler isolation valve, which was also present and correct. The next logical step was to test the dynamic working pressure while the boiler was actively firing under load.
Identifying the Fault: Severe Under-Gassing
I reset the boiler, and fortunately, it ignited immediately. However, connecting the manometer revealed the core issue: the dynamic pressure at the appliance had plummeted to just 8-9mb.
According to the manufacturer’s technical specifications, this specific Vaillant Ecotec model requires a working range of 17mb to 25mb. The burner was massively under-gassed, causing the flame to extinguish prematurely and triggering the boiler’s safety lockout mechanism.
The Fix: Gas Valve Replacement
A combi boiler’s gas valve is a robust mechanical component, but it works incredibly hard. It opens and closes potentially hundreds of times a day, every time the thermostat calls for heat or a hot tap is turned on. Over years of continuous operation, this constant mechanical motion can cause internal fatigue.
In this scenario, the valve’s internal mechanism had malfunctioned and was no longer opening wide enough, heavily restricting the flow of gas to the burner. To resolve the issue, we replaced the faulty gas valve with a brand-new Vaillant OEM part. Following installation, the gas valve was calibrated, and the dynamic pressure returned to optimal operating parameters, restoring reliable heating and hot water to the property.

I had a boiler issue, stopped working. He arrived on the same day and ensured that the boiler works while we wait for parts. Kept me updated while parts were coming and asked if the boiler is still working. Always kept the area clean and explained what was the issue. Great job! Definitely recommend.Posted on Google

Fantastic service from Guy, who travelled out to Market Rasen on a Sunday when our boiler stopped working. He was super professional, quick to sort the issue, and great value for money. With kids in the house, getting the heating and hot water back on meant everything, definitely one of those luxuries you take for granted until they’re gone. Really appreciate the effort and would highly recommend.Posted on Google

Guy came to us today which was a wet and cold Sunday afternoon as my Elderly Mother was without heating. After initial contact a time was agreed and Guy arrived on the dot.... He was very good and explained everything he was doing ensuring we understood what was happening. Guy was very clean and there was not a single bit of mess left behind. He made sure we were happy with the work and didnt leave until he was 100% sure the problem was fixed. There was no hard sell with Guy at all he explained a few options for us in the future. Would HIGHLY reccommend Guy and have saved his details for future use. 5☆☆☆☆☆Posted on Google
